Job Description

The Youth Ministry Director exists to provide love and care for students in grades 6-12. This person is someone with a deep love for Christ and students; someone with a passion for and an understanding of High School and Middle School students; someone who is able to thrive in a team environment, who loves to laugh, and someone who is able to envision and energize a community of students as it fits within the vision and mission of Brookside Church. 


Classification: Full Time, Salaried, Exempt 

Accountable to: NextGen Pastor

Average Hours/Week: 40


Qualifications and Expectation 

  • Acknowledge Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior 
  • Demonstrate personal maturity and godliness, growing in conformity to the image of Christ
  • Agreement of the Brookside Church Statement of Faith
  • Submit to authority of Lead Pastor and Elder Board 
  • Possess the heart of a pastor – not just the skills of a leader 
  • Possess a commitment to a holistic approach to discipleship and spiritual growth 
  • Passionate about facilitating discipleship in a family-oriented, multi-generational church 
  • Must be a competent and skilled oral and written communicator 
  • Experience in developing and working in team-based ministries and who thrives in a highly collaborative working environment



Pastoral and Shepherding Relationships 

Initiate and build relationships with students, adult leaders, and parents to develop ongoing discipleship opportunities 


  • Invest weekly in students by spending time at school campuses, games/concerts/performances, restaurants, coffee houses and hang out spots 
  • Seek to reach out to uninterested students 
  • Challenge interested students to move closer to God through Jesus 
  • Construct intentional times weekly for the express purpose of building redemptive relationships 
  • Pursue adult leaders who can pour into students 
  • Engage in regular and international ways of connecting with parents 
  • Have a visible and appropriate presence via social media



Direct, plan and establish environments where students feel accepted and safe to discover their story


  • Establish a balance of fun and relevance with evangelism and discipleship 
  • Exercise and utilize biblical teaching, facilitation of discussion, and effective communication
  • Work with the creative and family ministry team to develop content
  • Remain aware of current youth issues, trends and language 
  • Provide a safe atmosphere where all can grow in their desire to serve and honor God. 
  • Organize volunteers to serve in the High School and Middle School gatherings 
  • Work to create environments students feel they belong, are known and held accountable
  • Create a safe place for questions to be asked and struggles to be shared. 




Parents, Volunteers and Community 


Invite, train and lead the adult volunteers. 

  • Identify and pursue potential volunteers 
  • Establish a solid teaching team that can connect with students 
  • Lead, instruct and encourage adult leaders to become self-guided ministers 


Construct intentional times weekly to build relationships and pursing adult leaders 

  • Coordinate service opportunities retreats, events and mission trips 
  • Cultivate a heart for serving others 
  • Engage in service opportunities during the year and in the summer 
  • Maintain 3, 6, 9 months out for planning and communication purposes 


Intentional emphasis on partnering with parents 

  • Cultivate relationship with parents/guardians to support their discipleship efforts at home 
  • Work with parents on generating a discipleship program in the home 
  • Create events that strategically and intentionally target parent student interaction 


Collaborate with schools, principals, other churches and organizations

  • Cultivate a relationship with the school principals in our area 
  • Build relationships with other youth pastors and directors in our area 
  • Choose strategic organizations to come along side and support 



Other Responsibilities

  • Carry out projects and responsibilities as assigned
  • Attend weekly staff meetings Maintain healthy staff relationships 
  • Collaborate across all ministry departments Utilize intergenerational partnerships with the entire family at Brookside
