Title: Student Ministry – Student Ministry Coordinator

Reports to:  Associate Pastor

Employment Status: Exempt Fulltime

Summary of Position: Works with the Family Life Ministry Team to develop, support and oversee North Heights’ ministries relating to students and their families. Specifically, to provide oversight for community, education, and events for 6^th-12^th grade youth within the context of the larger family program, including multi-generational integration where appropriate. 

Minimum Qualifications: This position will be filled by a person possessing a unique combination of spiritual, motivational, and natural gifts. This person must have:

·        Belief that Jesus is the one and only Son of God and the only name that can save a human being. Be filled with the Holy Spirit and demonstrate the use of spiritual gifts.

·        A good grasp of the Bible and a belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God

·        A Christ-centered, Spirit-filled life that relies upon the leading of God; Father, Son, Holy Spirit. An exhibition of consistently moral behavior with the understanding that we are an example to students

·        Training, degree or experience in Biblical Studies, student/family ministries or related field with proven leadership evidenced interpersonally. 

·        An ability to discover, strategically implement, and then teach Biblical truth.

Duties/Areas of Responsibility: 

·        Working in conjunction with both the Associate Pastor and the Family Life Ministry Team (Kids, Student & Families) to articulate, and implement the vision with measurable goals for our Student Ministry with focus on 6^th-12^th grade students.

• Together with the Family Life Ministry Team, oversee the planning, organizing and executing of faith & community-building events including camps, retreats, curriculum for Sundays and Wednesdays. This includes partnering with Student Ministry staff to implement Confirmation program.
• Work with Family Life Ministry Team to integrate 6-12^th grade youth into the body of North Heights; worship service attendance, small groups, volunteer & outreach opportunities. Partner with North Heights Christian Academy, Celebrate Dance Academy & North Heights Karate.
• Intentionally incorporate parents/guardians of students so they are engaged, informed, invested and help parents transition through the phases of students lives. Connect students and families with Christ, one another, and this faith community
• Attend all-church staff meetings as well as Family Life Team Meetings and Training Events. Adhere to staff core values as well as the constitution and bylaws of North Heights

·        Performs other duties as assigned that further the vision of North Heights.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

• Proven ability to recruit, work with, motivate, train and manage volunteer leadership
• Strong ability to effectively lead worship vocally and instrumentally.
• Understand the needs of students and families and keep abreast of trends, resources and methods to serve them in the best way possible.
• Appropriately, thoroughly and passionately represent Student Ministries within the larger direction of North Heights; and beyond the walls of North Heights.
• Competence in management skills including, working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web proficiency, personal time management, strategic planning, and accounting. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, in English

Optional but desirable:

• Working knowledge EMS and Arena

Outcomes required from this position:

• Strategy, vision and topics for Student Ministry are developed with input from the Family Life Ministry Team, and readily shared with volunteers and staff teams as well as with families of 6-12^th Graders; teachings are Biblically based and relationally relevant.
• A team of leaders within the Student Ministry is recruited, inspired, trained, mentored and appreciated. Leaders and parents receive timely communication that encourages engagement within the ministry. 
• 6-12^th Grade youth are encouraged to grow in their relationship with the Lord and equipped to share their faith with others.
• In partnership with student leadership, provide an avenue where children and students can express themselves through worship, thus growing and inspiring their faith.
• Faithful involvement within the life of North Heights Lutheran Church.
