Job Description

New Life Christian Reformed Church (Spring, TX) has begun a search for a Lead Pastor who will shepherd the congregation into its next chapter of life and love, one characterized by Spirit-led ministry to one another and the community.

Personal Qualifications—The Lead Pastor will:

  1. Be able to give testimony to his love for the Lord and God’s Word, as well as his call to pastoral ministry.
  2. Be a passionate follower of Jesus, shaped by the regular practice of spiritual disciplines and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit.
  3. Be creative, imaginative, and enthusiastic about the mission of the local church to make more disciples who love the Lord and keep in step with the Spirit.
  4. Be an emotionally healthy person who loves people and can create and sustain positive relationships with them.
  5. Be a courageous Kingdom-minded person in a post-Christian context willing to guide the congregation from the foundation of God’s infallible Word through the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit.
  6. Meet or exceed the requirements for ordination as a Minister of the Word and Sacraments in the Christian Reformed Church in North America. Consequently, he will be ordained or be ordainable as such, though ordained individuals from other historically Reformed denominations will be considered.

Professional Competencies—The Lead Pastor will be:

  1. An excellent communicator who preaches in Spirit and truth with conviction.
  2. A gifted shepherd able to provide spiritual direction and pastoral care with wisdom and love.
  3. A skilled organizational leader with experience helping a congregation become more effective in making better and more disciples.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Preaching/Teaching—the Lead Pastor is responsible for the bulk of the preaching and will have opportunity to teach, with the priority being the young adults.
  2. Corporate Worship—the Lead Pastor is responsible for the planning and delivery of engaging, life-transforming worship services. A Worship Director provides support.
  3. Leadership/Management—the Lord Pastor will equip the saints for the work of the ministry by partnering with the Council towards the embrace of a compelling vision and mission, accompanied by the implementation of effective strategies.
  4. Pastoral Care—the Lead Pastor will provide timely spiritual direction and pastoral care for those seeking baptism, profession of faith, church membership, marriage, healing, and encouragement, as well as for those suffering the loss of love.
  5. Public Presence—the Lead Pastor has the privilege of representing the congregation in the broader community.

Supervisory Relationships:

  • The Lead Pastor reports to and is accountable to the Council.
  • The Lead Pastor leads, manages, and coaches the staff.
  • The Lead Pastor, with the Council will provide doctrine and life oversite of church plants and partnerships.


About New Life Christian Reformed Church

New Life Christian Reformed Church is a numerically small but healthy congregation that includes a highly dedicated group of believers deeply committed to a shared future of effective ministry. Member comes from a variety of religious backgrounds but together now share a commitment to the Lordship of Christ, the centrality of Scripture, and a Reformed expression of the Christian faith. The ministry of New Life is supported by a generous congregation, a functional facility, and sufficient acreage for its ministry.

 

Over the past decade, New Life has planted ten congregations. It has established New Life Community Christian School, a dynamic school that provides an excellent educational experience for children ages 6 weeks through PK4, accompanied by before and after school and summer programs for school-aged children. New Life is also a co-founder of the Old Town Spring Heights Community Association, six churches working together to impact Old Town Spring Heights for Christ. The Association has quarterly community worship services, multiple annual events, and monthly assembly meetings with residents of the community.

 

While many people are approaching retirement age or are retired, the congregation has both the desire and the energy to make a difference for Christ in Spring, TX and beyond. They believe the time is right for a renewed commitment to become better disciples who are passionate about God’s Word and longing to lead others into stronger relationships with the Lord.
