Job Title:                   Community Coordinator

Reports to:                Director of Legal Services and Operations (DLSO)


General Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to connect and coordinate the volunteers of the International Welcome Center (“IWC”) to meet the assessed needs of clients served by the IWC. The IWC’s goal is to provide its clients with the following primary services: meeting urgent resettlement needs; training conversational English; and, providing driver’s training. To accomplish these tasks, the Community Coordinator will assess the needs of clients; and recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to assist in providing these services.


This is a full-time position requiring 35-40 hours per week.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Urgent Resettlement Needs

·     Meet clients and assess (or train volunteers to assess) client needs for resettlement.

·     Recruit and train volunteers to meet the initial urgent resettlement needs using the provided process.

·     Oversee and manage donations that are gathered to meet the urgent resettlement needs of clients.



English Services

·     Meet clients and assess (or train volunteers to assess) English proficiency using provided resources.

·     Recruit and train volunteers to be conversational English tutors using provided English program, materials, and apps.

·     Match trained volunteers to assessed clients.

·     Track progress of tutors with clients providing resources as needed.


Driving Services

·     Recruit and train volunteers to be driving instructors using the provided process.

·     Track maintenance of the IWC driving instruction vehicle


General Administrative Duties

·     Track volunteer hours and record information related to services provided.

·     Provide reports when requested to the Director of Legal Services and Operations (“DLSO”), Executive Director and the IWC Board.

·     Attend IWC staff meetings.

·     Assist the DLSO in maintaining and discovering relationships with like-minded organizations or potential service providers.

·     Regularly assess services and consider updating systems, processes, and/or curriculum as needed.

 

 

 

Job Competencies:

·     Ability to follow Biblical principles and IWC policies, procedures, goals, and objectives

·     Ability to exercise initiative, use of sound judgment in analyzing situations, and make decisions in a timely matter

·     Ability to present information effectively

·     Ability to develop relationships with like-minded organizations and be a positive influence

·     Ability to develop a knowledge of the needs and attitudes of the foreign-born in the Akron area by developing personal relationships with them

·     Ability to maintain tact and professionalism when experiencing discouragement or conflict

·     Ability to understand and practice the rules of confidentiality

·     Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with IWC staff, GBC staff, volunteers, and clients.

·     Ability to work with various persons and personalities in a professional manner.

·     Ability to control costs to ensure budget compliance.

·     Ability to maintain a personal calendar.

·     Ability to use general computer skills (Microsoft Office) and WhatsApp.

·     Ability to attend onsite and offsite meetings.

·     Ability to communicate in person, in writing, via email, text and telephone.

·     Ability to lift items weighing up to 30lbs.

·     Ability to arrange IWC rooms for various meetings.

·     Ability to communicate and effectively interact across cultures.


Education and Experience:

·     Experience in social services or related fields desired but not required

·     1-3 year’s experience in a social service or ministry field desired but not required

·     Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable by insurance policies

·     Must clear a background check
