Full-Time Kid’s Director


Summary
Hendersonville First United Methodist Church is seeking a full-time Kid’s Director to join our staff team and mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Serving the community of Hendersonville for over 120 years, HFUMC is a respected faith community with a rich heritage matched with a passion to continue impacting our community in new ways for the glory of Jesus Christ. Located in a quickly-growing suburb of Nashville, the faith community of HFUMC prays that it will be one of the churches that God will use to reach the more than 80,000 unchurched residents within a ten-minute drive of the Church campus. Poised for growth with a strong culture of support for children and families, HFUMC seeks a gifted Kid’s Director who will join in our vision to reach new families, establish safe and fun environments for faith development, and adapt to the ever-changing needs associated with ministering to families during COVID-19.

The Kid’s Director will be a Christ-centered leader who faithfully models a life of Christian discipleship and desires to provide for the spiritual formation of children and their families. He/she will collaborate with staff and volunteers to implement the vision and goals of the HFUMC Kid’s ministry by building relationships within the community and church and directing the planning, administration and implementation of programs and events designed to reach new families and foster life-long faith in Jesus Christ.


Accountability & Supervision

The Kid’s Director reports directly to the Associate Pastor of Connections and is additionally accountable to the Senior Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee. The Kid’s Director provides oversight to volunteer teams and paid (part-time) childcare workers with the potential to also oversee seasonal interns and/or additional staff as the ministry department grows.


Primary Responsibilities

1.) Programs and Events
o In partnership with staff, volunteers and ministry partners, provide leadership, resourcing and oversight over all weekly Kids programs (nursery-6th) including: Sunday School/Kids Worship and Confirmation (noting that some of these ministry programs are currently being offered virtually during the pandemic)
o Seek to provide opportunities for children and families to engage in congregational worship through such venues as: Acolyte ministry, weekly children’s messages, seasonal music specials, etc....
o Provide support and resourcing to major event coordinators for the planning, promotion and implementation of seasonal outreach/discipleship events and fundraisers such as: the Spring Easter Egg Hunt, Children’s Consignment Sale fundraiser, Vacation Bible School, Kids Camp, Created by God seminar, Trail of Treats outreach and Night in Bethlehem (live nativity).
o In partnership with volunteers and staff, seek to provide resources and support to meet the unique needs of parents and families through take-home family discipleship resources and seasonal programmatic offerings such as a bi-monthly Mothers of Preschoolers study [“MOPS”] and a monthly Parents Night Out ministry.

2.) Volunteers and Team Ministry
o Provide oversight and support for all parents and volunteers within the Kids ministry—developing supportive relationships and taking initiative with recruitment, coordination and ongoing volunteer training/parent enrichment opportunities.
o Maintain open and direct lines of communication with staff, volunteers and families—providing venues for constructive feedback, maintaining confidentiality with integrity and resolving conflict in a manner that fosters trust and confidence in the Kid’s ministry and its staff.
o Seek to continually develop new relationships within the community—modeling a Christ-like witness and compassion that helps bridge new families into the life and mission of the Church.
o In conjunction with a Children’s Discipleship Ministry Team (CDMT), provide for the ongoing success of the Kids ministry through regular assessment of the health of the ministry and establishing ongoing goals and strategies to provide for the spiritual formation of children and families.
o Foster creative collaboration with other church staff in developing opportunities and environments that incorporate children and families in all phases of the life and worship of the church.

3.) Administrative Tasks & Facilities
o In partnership with other staff and volunteers, seek to provide a safe, fun and inviting climate through all Kids programs, events and interactions within the community.
o Facilitate background checks and volunteer orientation/training in accordance to the church-wide Safe Sanctuaries policy.
o Ensure that the news, key information and priorities of the Kids ministry are communicated timely and clearly to families and volunteers through all electronic, social and print media.
o Provide for the other administrative needs of the Kids ministry, including (but not limited to): maintaining the Kids ministry events calendar; setting and tracking a budget for programs and events; compiling forms, attendance rosters and volunteer schedules; maintaining a database of families and volunteers; attending regular staff meetings; assisting with timely follow-up to new visiting and absentee families; and working with other HFUMC volunteers and staff to ensure the safety and cleanliness of shared facilities.


Qualifications
Qualified candidates considering this position will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry or similar background, and proven past experience (preferably 5 or more years) in effective ministry leadership to children, families and collaborative volunteer teams. He/she will preferably have familiarity with the Methodist Church and doctrines. Prospective candidates will also demonstrate a strong ability to understand the needs and dynamics of children’s ministry while having the leadership capacity, organization and initiative to build volunteer teams and implement a ministry strategy that achieves the vision and goals of the Kids ministry. He/she will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, fluency in online/virtual communication mediums and the ability adapt to meet the changing demands and ministry contexts associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. They will have the ability to build positive relationships with community members, children, parents, other staff members and supervisors. All candidates must also submit and pass a multi-state background check.

Other Considerations
This is a full-time, salaried position with available reimbursement program for health insurance and ongoing learning/leadership development expenses. Hours include Sunday mornings and some evenings and holidays. Compensation package will be commensurate of past education and leadership experience.
