Children's Ministry Director

Asbury United Methodist Church is seeking a Children’s Ministry Director who will help us in sharing the hope of Jesus Christ with the children of our church. This position will work closely with the pastor, staff, and lay church leadership to oversee, lead, and develop the Children’s Ministry in our church (ages newborn-5th grade), including staffing, volunteers, programing, curriculum, and special events. The Children’s Ministry Director will have strong leadership abilities and be able to connect readily and easily in developing relationships with children and their families. The Children’s Ministry Director will creatively and passionately encourage children to grow in their faith and in biblical understanding so that they may live authentic lives consistent with their God-given purpose.

Qualifications

• A faithful and engaging hope in Jesus Christ
• A strong understanding of the Bible and theology appropriate to ministry with young children, and personal beliefs that are in agreement with the key theological positions of United Methodist Church
• Some experience in Children's Ministry, Early Childhood Education, or a related field
• Leadership skills necessary to administer all aspects of the Children’s Ministry, including volunteer management, financial oversight, and spiritual growth
• Effective communications skills with staff, parents, and children
• Excellent organizational skills
• Creative and able to cast and communicate a vision for the program that supports the Mission and Vision of the church
• Proficient with computers
• Professional appearance and demeanor

Responsibilities

• Lead Asbury UMC’s regular weekly discipleship program for children (newborn-5th grade) on Sunday mornings, overseeing our Sunday school and children’s worship. This includes curriculum selection and planning, recruitment and supervision of significant numbers of children’s ministry volunteers, and direct teaching during the children’s worship during our 9 and 11AM service·        
• Oversee and work with nursery worker for Sunday morning childcare
• Plan and direct children’s ministry special events, such as Vacation Bible School and the Christmas program
• Oversee and support any children’s programming on Wednesday night, though director will not be required to be present for Wednesday night activities
