Student Ministry Job Description
JOB TITLE: Student Ministry Director (Part-Tim, 16 to 20hrs/wk)
LOCATION: Pekin, IL
REPORTS TO: Sr. Pastor or designee.
SUMMARY:
First Baptist Church – Pekin is seeking a student ministry director to develop and deliver fun and discipling content for students of our church and community, grades 7-12.
Expectations of Student Ministry Leader:
• Model a Christ-centered lifestyle inside and outside of ministry.
• Establish positive and encouraging relationships with students by investing in their lives, such as attending some of their extracurricular activities (ie: sporting events, concerts, school plays, etc.).
• Plan, implement, and attend weekly activities for the youth that include: teaching, discipleship, and fun!
• Plan, organize, and attend quarterly invite events that give students a special opportunity to invite friends to introduce them to the student ministry and the Christian life.
• Provide hands-on opportunities for service projects and mission trips in service to God and others.
• Regularly attend the youth Sunday school class and teach as needed.
• Participate in a weekly staff meeting or meet weekly with Sr. Pastor or designee to coordinate ministries.
· Administrate the Student Ministry budget.
• Recruit and develop volunteer leaders, empowering them to share in ministry responsibilities.
• Effectively communicate to youth and parents using available tools (Facebook, website, etc.).
• Attend monthly Official Board meeting and share a student ministry update.
Qualifications:
· Profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
· A heart for youth.
· Takes initiative, is self-directed, a leader who works with a team and is respectful to all.
· Teaches according to the Biblical doctrine of First Baptist Church.
Abilities and Skills:
· Effective communicator and organizer who can recruit and delegate.
· Knowledge of Youth Ministry and Christian Education concepts and methods.
· Willing to learn and receive additional training to increase competence.
Experience: Student or graduate of a school of ministry or has several years of experience.
Pay: $20,000. for part-time position with the possibility of housing.
Materials and activities budget: Up to $5,000/year. We encourage 2 to 3 fundraisers annually (after 2nd service meal).
First Baptist Church is located in central Illinois, approx. 15 miles south of Peoria. Our COVID average Sunday morning attendance is 220 with 2 services (9 am traditional and 10:30 am contemporary). Before COVID we averaged approx. 270. Our purpose statement is: Producing fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ who love God and people. We have a very generous church family made up of an older demographic, however, we are seeing more and more younger families attending and a pastor that has a heart for evangelism and discipleship.
The youth position is currently part-time (20 hrs a week) with a salary of approx. $20,000 annually. Free housing and utilities are a possibility but more hours would be required. We have a great facility that includes a gym and racketball court and a newly renovated youth space. We are located in a large older neighborhood with 2 elementary schools nearby.
