POSITION: Children's Ministry Programming Coordinator

Reports to:  Director of Preschool and Children’s Ministry                       

Works With: Children, Parents/Families, Staff and Volunteers

Disclaimer: Due to direct contact with at-risk population, full-vaccination is a requirement

Supervises: Volunteers; Caregiver(s)                Pay Rate: $20-22/hour

Classification: Regular, full-time non-exempt; 40/ hours/week.

Schedule:     Must commit to be on campus Sundays 9 am to 12:30 pm; Tuesdays 2 pm to 8 pm; Fridays 8:30 am to 1 pm. Remaining schedule can be flexible.

I.          MAJOR PURPOSE AND SCOPE

     Elementary-age Program focus:

a.   To plan and deliver developmentally appropriate programming that provides all children an opportunity to grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, and intellectually

b.   To foster and sustain an environment in which the needs of elementary age children and their families are nurtured to walk with God through faith, values, and knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Such programming includes, but is not limited to, Sunday morning Sunday School; Tuesday afternoon Kids Fellowship Club; Summer vacation bible camp; holiday-specific events. 

Sunday morning curriculum follows Sparkhouse Rotational Curriculum

c.   To develop and manage a team of volunteers and paid child-care workers who are able to assist in nurturing children from birth through 5th grade in their Christian faith

d.   To serve as a liaison between the Director and program participants to navigate the transition from preschool age into early childhood programs, and again grow up into middle school youth programs.

Preschool Program focus:

e.   Assist the Director in providing direction and oversight of the preschool, including but not limited to implementation of classroom practices and procedures

f.    Serve as Acting Director in the absence of the Director (currently on Friday)

g.   Promote communication between faculty, parents, church staff, volunteers, and ministry committees

h.   Assist in ensuring compliance to licensing, and health and safety requirements

i.     Assist the Director in staff meetings and other in-service training opportunities that develop understanding of policies, mission and philosophy

j.     Assist teaching staff in daily check in/out procedures.


 

 

II.       REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES

 

  • Clear sense of call to Christian ministry with a special focus on and ability to minister to children and their families
  • Foundation in Biblical scholarship and in the specific tenets of the reformed Protestant tradition
  • Demonstrated ability and organizational skills for strategic program development in the area of children’s ministries
  • Ability to think critically and conceptually; reach creative solutions to challenges and problems
  • Ability to work collaboratively, especially with Director and Pastor(s)
  • Effectively communicate with children, parents/families, staff, volunteers and ministry teams utilizing various methods – e.g., verbal, written, social media
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, taking responsibility for completing work in a timely manner, following through with commitments and monitoring own work to ensure quality

·        Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.

 

III.     QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

·        Education or experience in Christian ministry, preferably early childhood

·        B.A. in education, religion or child development

·        Completion of all State of California Dept of Social Services Title 22 requirements for compliance to a child care center, preferred

·        Proficiency in computer skills – e.g., spreadsheets, email, internet searches, social media, creating newsletters and bulletins/posters

·        Ability to be finger-printed and pass background check

  • CPR and Mandated Reported Certified preferred.

IV.      POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

           Elementary-age Program focus:

  • To develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate programming for Sunday School, Kids Fellowship Club, Vacation Bible Camp, and other events

·       .  To coordinate and supervise paid staff and volunteers for Sunday School, Nursery and Friday Early Childhood program, as well as being in the rotation schedule

  • To abide by the WPC Code of Conduct for Children’s Ministry
  • To perform such other duties as may be assigned by Supervisor.

 

Preschool Program focus:

 

  • Effectively communicate at all levels utilizing various methods – e.g., verbal, written, social media
  • Ability to establish working relationships with people at various levels
  • Proficiency in computer skills – e.g., spreadsheets, email, internet searches, social media, creating newsletters and bulletins/posters
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multi-tasking and organizational skills

·        . Responsible for the administrative functions of the preschool office

  • Assist teachers in classroom management, schedule and assign substitutes when needed
  • Participate as a member of interview team
  • Be conversant with requirements of LA County health protocols, the State Licensing Board for Child Care Centers, and CalOSHA safety requirements
  • Assist in providing information, tours and assistance to prospective families.
