The facilities maintenance coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring routine and preventive maintenance (hereafter PM) programs primarily at NCC’s Northern Virginia (NoVA) campus, but also for other NCC properties as needed, including the properties listed below. The position is full-time, with on-call hours for emergencies, and is supervised by the facilities manager.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the facilities manager to create a schedule addressing preventative/routine maintenance needs.
  • Perform scheduled and routine maintenance tasks to ensure proper functioning of all facilities and utility systems, components, and equipment.
  • Proactively checking NOVA campus facility(s) and assets to identify maintenance needs before a ticket is created. Inspect offices, common areas, and grounds for hazards or needed repairs.
  • Maintain records of planned and completed maintenance.
  • Share “on call" responsibilities for emergency response to facilities needs.
  • Ensure compliance with inspection and maintenance requirements of NCC owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of mechanical systems such as location of meters, sizing of HVAC filters, locations and function of electrical panels and water shutoffs etc.
  • Take the initiative on all preventative/routine/scheduled maintenance projects identified in the NCC Facilities Management SOP with or without being requested by facilities manager.
  • Keep up the grounds outside of all NCC properties – to include weekly weed picking and spraying and grass mowing in spring/summer, leaves raking/cleaning in fall when needed and snow removal and salting in the winter when needed.
  • Maintain a PM supply inventory (e.g., light bulbs, filters, salt, weed-eater string, etc.) and inform facilities manager when replacement items need to be purchased in order to perform PM activities.
  • Maintain the proper use, cleaning, maintenance and storage of all tools.
  • Regularly check email and the ticket system maintenance requests, to see if facilities manager has assigned any tickets.
  • Be a force multiplier for the facilities manager on larger projects.


Examples of Projects:

  • Paint touch-ups,
  • Landscaping tree-boxes,
  • Coordinating seasonal HVAC PM activities,
  • Bathroom maintenance (e.g., faucet replacement, toilet repair, etc.),
  • Salting and/or removing snow from NCC walkways, sidewalks, and driveways.


Examples of Routine Tasks:

  • Changing HVAC filters and light bulbs as needed,
  • Checking door hardware functionality and wear replacing as needed,
  • Cleaning parking lot,
  • Auto inspections, DMV issues, registration, maintenance on church van (oil changes, vacuuming/cleaning, etc.),
  • Check condition of all painted surfaces – walls, ceilings, doors, baseboards, and molding,
  • Responding to maintenance ticket requests.


Special Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Desire and passion to serve Christ in the local church.
  • Forty hours of work per week is expected.
  • Previous experience working in a hands-on maintenance capacity.
  • Previous landscaping experience preferred.
  • Ability to move medium to heavy loads (maximum of 50 lbs.).
  • Proactive and brings constructive and analytical attitude to problem solve issues.
  • Positive attitude and diligent work ethic.
  • Good communications skills, both written and verbal. Excellent organization and time management.
