The Worship Place serves an energetic and active adult community, and though we love kids, Sun City is an age-restricted community to those nearing or in retirement. The Worship Place has 57 active ministries and provides many services to their congregation. The Worship Place is one church with two campuses.
Job description
JOB PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Senior Pastor position for The Worship Place is a called assignment that utilizes the incumbent’s special gifts in spiritual leadership, preaching, teaching, administration, staff development and guidance, and strategic Church planning under the auspices of the Board of Trustees for the benefit of the Church. This position ministers to the needs of the congregation, the community and beyond, and coordinates Church programs, all of which underscore the mission of The Worship Place and its members.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a graduate degree at the Master’s or Doctorate level. A minimum of ten (10) years as a Senior or Lead Pastor of a Protestant congregation and proven experience ministering to the needs of a congregation or equivalent assignments in Christian organizations is needed.
It is essential that the person in the position of Senior Pastor has strong preaching and communications skills and can be a mentor to Church staff and members in discipleship, fellowship, and outreach programs. This position must have the capacity to give compassionate attention to members and their families, plus the visitors of The Worship Place. The Senior Pastor must create an environment of encouragement and support within the congregation of The Worship Place to have genuine relationships with Jesus and to glorify God in all areas of their lives.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Pastor will be the focal person in the spiritual and administrative activities of the Church as has been assigned to the position and approved by the Board of Trustees of The Worship Place. This position will focus on spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through preaching of the Word; Church discipleship through Christian study; supporting the various ministries of the Church; Church staff and members’ spiritual development; and mentoring the staff. The Senior Pastor will engage the Trustees in their spiritual journeys and provide counsel and direction for the benefit of the Trustees, Church committees, Staff, and ministry teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position will perform, direct, and/or supervise the performance of the following primary functions under the overall oversight of the Board of Trustees of The Worship Place and in accordance with the Church’s constitution and by-laws.
OTHER DUTIES:
The Senior Pastor may represent The Worship Place in Sun City and the community in activities, services, and events that occur away from the campuses of the Church.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
This position requires the incumbent to have the requisite skills of an ordained minister to preach, teach, impart compassion and joy, and lead the congregation of the Church. The Senior Pastor must be not only an effective preacher of the Word but also an active listener and participant in the lives of the congregation. This position will provide leadership in developing the spiritual direction and character of the Church, member and visitor outreach, empathetic concern to all members and their families and provide a mentoring attitude and witness to all members, thus showing the fruit of the Spirit in this person. The ability to communicate both orally and in writing is vital to the success of the responsibilities connected to this position.
